Depending on Crowd Settings, moderation may or may not be required for Groups in the Crowd.
Where moderation is required, the status of each Item will move immediately to ‘Awaiting Moderation’ immediately following submission by a user.
Users with the Moderator role for a Group will be notified of Items to be moderated via email and via a Task notification in the Notifications area.
Moderating Submissions from the Manage Submissions page
A list of all items that require Moderation can be viewed by selecting Manage -> Submissions from the main menu, which displays the Manage Submissions page.
By default, all Crowds, Groups and Item Status options are selected.
Using the Status filter, the list of Items can be limited to show only Items that are “Awaiting Moderation”, or that have a status of “Moderation Overdue”.
Each entry in the list provides the following options for Moderators.
Moderate Item - Carry out Moderation of the Item, which is available when the Item Status is Awaiting Moderation
Move Item - Move the Submission from its current Group into another Group. Note that items can only be moved between Groups in the same Crowd.
Email - Send an email to the user who submitted the Item
Full details of each Submission can be viewed by selecting the title of the Submission in the Title column.
The list of Submissions can also be sorted by clicking on any of the table column headings.
Moderating Submissions from Moderation Notifications
Users with the Moderator role for a Group are notified of new Submissions that require moderation immediately following submission. Notifications take two forms:
Email – an email is sent to the Moderator containing a link to the Submission that requires moderation. Clicking on the email link opens the Moderate Item page for the Submission.
Task Notification – a task notification entry is added to the Task Notification menu, along with a red alert badge to inform the user that a new task has been added, illustrated in the example below.
Clicking on the Task Notification entry opens the Moderate Item page for the Submission.
Carrying Out Moderation
When a moderation task link is selected, the Moderate Item page for that Item is displayed.
Accepting a Submission
To accept a Submission, choose the Accept button. This will publish the Item on the system for all Crowd members to view, and issue further notifications as follows:
To the Item submitter, informing that the Item has passed moderation.
To all assessors of the Group, informing that a new item has been received that now requires assessment.
2. Removing a Submission
To remove a Submission, ensuring that it is not published to Crowd members, enter a reason for removal and choose the Remove button.
This will issue notifications as follows:
To the Item submitter, informing that the Item has NOT passed moderation, and including the reason for this.
NOTE - removed Submissions will remain on the system for view by users with Admin and Moderator roles with a status of ‘Removed’, but will not be visible to any other users.
